Autumn Sunshine in the Trossachs

Following on from my last post about how bad weather shouldn't be something that you worry about I had to put up a few pictures of an amazingly hot and sunny wedding day at the end of September, in Scotland! I photographed the wedding of Rowena and Andrew whom I had met before as I was also the photographer for the wedding of Rowena's sister, Sarah. The forecast was good but I was still bowled over by quite how nice the weather was and to see the Trossachs hills, just 30 minutes from Glasgow, in that weather with the sun low in the sky was truly awe inspiring. The entire day was at the Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Resort near Aberfoyle, a venue I have been to many times in the past and one I always look forward to returning to. As you can see from the pictures below it is in a wonderful setting and, after their Humanist ceremony outside, we took full advantage of the nearby Loch Ard for a couple of relaxed pictures before joining the rest of the guests in the gardens.

Raining? Why Worry!

Recently I have been meeting with a lot of couples who seem to be very concerned about the weather on their big day. I really don't think you should worry about the weather - especially if your wedding is going to be in Scotland. There is absolutely nothing you can do about at and there are much more important things to think about! As an experienced photographer I have covered weddings in every type of weather imaginable from the scorching summer day that every bride dreams of to the wet and windy days that are all too common around here! Not only that, as a reportage-style photographer people come to me because they don't want to be standing around posing for me for hours (in the rain) - it is my job to work around you, not the other way around. If it pours with rain then I will just take pictures of you inside - it is as simple as that.

Back in the 'summer' this year I was fortunate to be able to photograph the truly lovely wedding of Vicky and Greg. The weather that day was awful, especially considering that the day was going to include a ferry trip to Inchcolm Island in the choppy Firth of Forth and a reception in a barn. However, as you can see from the pictures, spirits were high and a fantastic day was had by all, even though waterproofs and umbrellas were in abundance.

For me it was a particularly creative wedding and took the route I always hope more of my clients would use. Instead of the usual formulaic approach Vicky and Greg thought outside the box and the day was embellished with wonderful ideas - flowers picked from a friend's garden that morning, burlesque-style bridesmaids dresses, a humanist wedding ceremony, a reception in a barn (freshly swept by the bride and groom of course) with a trailer for the band to play on, hay-bales decorated with more flowers, home baked cakes and a buffet of simple but hearty haggis.

The weather couldn't really have been much worse but this was one of the happiest, most romantic and most fun weddings I have ever photographed!
